About Us

For over 25 years the Scottish Thistle Awards have been recognised as Scotland's tourism industry's Oscars, honouring individuals, businesses, partnerships and events for their innovation, excellence and success in the hospitality and tourism sector.

The awards are organised by VisitScotland and supported by a panel of industry representatives from Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards, Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions, Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards, HIT Scotland, Scotland Food and Drink, Scottish Licenced Trade Association, Scottish Tourism Alliance, sportscotland and Wild Scotland.

The Scottish Thistle Awards is based on 5 regional programmes with the winners of each progressing to the National Final.

The regions that make up the regional programmes are:

-  Aberdeen City and Shire
-  Central, Fife and Tayside
-  Highlands and Islands
-  Lothians and Borders
-  West

Further information on each of the regions can be found below. The winners of each region will progress to the National Final awards ceremony to represent their region at a national level.

Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards

 The Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards (ACSTA) is the official partner of the Scottish Thistle Awards for the Aberdeen City & Shire region. Winners of the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards will be announced in November and will automatically go forward to the National Scottish Thistle Awards in March to compete with the other 4 regions of Scotland.

ACSTA is the region for businesses based in the Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire local authority areas.

Central, Fife & Tayside

The Central, Fife & Tayside region covers the following local authority areas:

Angus , Clackmannanshire, Dundee City, Falkirk, Fife, Perth & Kinross and Stirling.

Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards

The Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards (HITA) is the official partner of the Scottish Thistle Awards for the Highlands and Islands region. Winners of the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards will be announced in November and will automatically go forward to the National Scottish Thistle Awards in March to compete with the other 4 regions of Scotland.

HITA is the region for businesses based in the Argyll & Bute (excluding G postcode areas), Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Highland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland local authority areas.

Lothians & Borders

The Lothians and Borders  region covers the following Local Authority areas:

East Lothian, Edinburgh City,  Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian .

West

The West region covers the following local authority areas:

Argyll & Bute (G postcodes only) Dumfries & Galloway, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire
