Events and Festivals  


An award for:
Sporting and cultural events and festivals that have increased tourism, generated significant economic impact and raised an area's profile. This category is split into two awards: regional and international.

Who should enter?
Organisers of new or established local, regional and international events of any size.

What the judges are looking for:
Events which attract regional or international audiences and can show evidence of media attention, local collaborations and benefits to Scotland's tourism economy.

Conditions of Entry:

  • Only events and festivals held between January 2007 and March 2008 are eligible to apply.
  • Only online entries are accepted.
  • A business or individual can enter more than one category
  • Entries must be submitted by 11.59pm on Thursday 5 June 2008.
  • Judges reserve the right to transfer entries which in their view are entered in an incorrect category, to a more appropriate category.
  • Where applicable, entrants must be a member of VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance schemes.
  • If you are submitting an entry on behalf of another party, you must be able to provide proof of permission if required.
  • The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • All information will be treated as confidential and will be used solely for the purposes of the Scottish Thistle Awards.
  • For PR purposes, VisitScotland reserve the right to publish contact details and a summary of short listed and winners entries.
  • Scottish Thistle Award winners and finalist will be promoted in national and regional media and on the visitscotland.com and the Scottish Thistle Awards websites.  
  • VisitScotland cannot be held responsible for the non-receipt or loss of any entries.
  • Wining organisations / businesses must be prepared to give media interviews, and we encourage winning organisations to become  Scottish Thistle Awards champions by help us promote the values of excellence and quality.
